Supply&Demand Mixtape Sessions Live Mix @ Beauty & Essex NYC

Welcome to our next installment of our monthly mixtape sessions.

Bay Area native Armand Gaerlan, also known as DJ WALKOFF quickly emerged in the NYC nightlife scene and is now returning home to SF. With a background of 10+ years of DJ’ing, WALKOFF has a unique style of blending a musical arsenal that spans many genres from classic party rockers to top 40, house to hip-hop, and everything in between.

Over the past 3 years in NYC, WALKOFF has worked with some of the top venues, earned residencies, and has been selected to work exclusive corporate parties. At the core, WALKOFF is a true professional DJ whose passion shines through his music sets. He is also recognized and well respected as a former professional baseball player for the New York Mets and a successful online sales professional for Yahoo!, LinkedIn, & now BranchOut. His plans are to continue to perform and entertain audiences with his eclectic style.

Let’s start our Q&A.

When did you first start djayin?
I discovered the art of turntablism in 1996 from many friends who were in the mobile dj scene here in the Bay Area (Club5 Entertainment & PMD to name a few). At the time I was making my own mixtapes by recording from the radio to cassettes, so naturally it peaked my interest to take it to another level. During the mid 90’s to around 2004, I was also pursuing my dream of playing professional baseball so DJ’ing always had the backseat until I got released from the Mets in 2007. During those years I always kept a pulse on the industry and newest technologies, so it was an easy transition to pursue it further than just a hobby.

Current DJ Influences, too many to name but here’s a partial list – A-Trak, Jazzy Jeff, Z-Trip, DJ Scene, DJ Vice, DJ Enferno, Fashen, The Les, UrFriends

You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this
topic to be actually something which I think
I would never understand. It seems too complex and very broad for me.
I am looking forward for your next post, I’ll try
to get the hang of it!
