URBAN OUTLAW is a portrait of Magnus Walker, the rebel Porsche customizer who turned a hobby into an obsession, and an obsession into a successful business. From a workshop in downtown Los Angeles, Magnus obsessively harvests fragments from donor 911s, grafting them onto vintage frames to create one-off automobiles with the spirit of Ferdinand Porsche but an ethos entirely his own.

Phoenix’s Bankrupt! is one of the most anticipated releases of this year. A band From Versailles, France, consisting of Thomas Mars, Deck d’Arcy, Christian Mazzalai and Laurent Brancowitz have been working on the album as early as 2011. The band had stated in recent interviews that the album is going to be a departure from the pop sounds of Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix (2009), and they are trying to create something more experimental.

“Entertainment” is the album’s first single and track was mixed on the Thriller recording console. Check out the lyric video above for a listen.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (known as Coachella, Coachellafest or Coachella Festival) is a multi-day, now multi weekend annual music and arts festival, organized by Goldenvoice (a subsidiary of AEG Live) and held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, in the Inland Empire’s Coachella Valley. Pladra, at the first ever American Made Pop-Up Experience in Oakland, CA.

The Show & Tell concept shop has built its foundation with sustainable and socially
responsible brands with a focus on made in America. To help promote this platform, S&T has
opened their doors to host two pop-up shops that celebrate Made in USA:
Handsome Oxford – SF’s newest vintage menswear brand showcasing iconic pieces from Levi’s,
Pendleton, Woolrich, and LL Bean among others. The owner, Mark, has curated a collection of
trucker jackets, shirts, graphic tees and outerwear all made in the USA.

Pladra – a proud manufacturer in the USA, delivering outstanding quality and function to

All City Showdown is brought to you by 35th North skate shop, RVCA and Cons. It is a new twist from years past. 3 skaters,1 flimer and 8 hours to collect footage. All the tapes that are turned in at the end of the day are only seen by the All City judges and the editors until the day of the premiere. Difficulty of tricks, number of spots, quality of spots, style, creativity all are taken into account when deciding the winners. Carmichael Gallery is pleased to announce Like Father, Like Son : NYC, a retrospective survey of works by renowned Los Angeles-based Chicano father and son photographers, Eriberto and Estevan Oriol. The exhibition debuted at Carmichael Gallery’s Culver City space in the fall of 2011. The New York edition of Like Father, Like Son will comprise fifteen limited edition black and white, color, silver gelatin and digital c-prints from each photographer, including works exhibited in Art in the Streets (April 17 – August 11, 2011) at The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA). The exhibition, which offers a dramatic taste of the urban California lifestyle, marks the first showing of the Oriols’ work side by side on the US east coast.

Last night I was invited to attend the opening reception for Like Father, Like Son. A showing of Eriberto & Estevan Oriol’s photographs at Carmichael Gallery NY Pop-Up. I was pretty stoked to see some originals of their work, so I threw on my Estevan x Upper Playground hoodie and rolled out to the west side of Manhattan. I got in at 7:30, the turn out was great, the gallery was packed. Making a way through the crowd was a struggle at first (as with most good shows of course). But as people shifted towards the bar, started focusing on getting photos/signatures from the Oriols and started a smoke circle outside, things cleared up enough to really get a good view of the photos. Towards the end I took plenty of time to read the stories behind my favorite photos while having a couple cold beers, the show was a definite success and a good time.

Handsome Oxford is a petite and cozy boutique with a burst of character. The shop has been in existence for the past 5 months, and is tucked along Hyde St. in the Tenderloin District of San Francisco.

A “Made in America” sign and large American flag adorn the exterior of the store. Meanwhile, nostalgic Americana is draped, inside of the shop, from head to toe. Here, you will find apparel and accessories hand-picked by the owner and founder, Mark Cruzada. Handsome Oxford carries predominantly menswear and is, if course, 100% American-made.

Last Saturday, Nov. 3rd– family, friends, and customers gathered for the store’s official launch. There was great music blasting, complimentary food and drinks, and dope vibes!

I got to steal a few minutes with Mark to discuss the events leading up to his idea, of opening up a vintage shop. A native of the East Bay (Fremont/San Leandro), Mark openly admitted to being a “pack rat” in his younger days. He began collecting Pendletons and North Face apparel, back in high school. His “hobby” turned into an “addiction”. Mark puts pride and care into the merchandise he chooses to sell. It’s apparent when you walk in the store and find what they have to offer.

They’ve got it all:  Plaids shirts to various styles of jackets to the original LA Raiders and California Raisins sweatshirts. I was taking photographs of the shop, and low and behold– a 1987 NLCS Giants sweatshirt caught my eye!

Where does he acquire such amazing finds? Everywhere! Mark and his brother, Matt, frequent flea markets and thrift shops all over the country. From Seattle to Oregon, from LA to Texas, and even all the way out to the East Coast.

Next trip: to Billings, Montana!

I asked Mark if he plans to expand Handsome Oxford? He says he’d love to open up a shop in Japan. And, he also mentioned increasing the women’s merchandise. (YES!)

If you love vintage American-made apparel, then this place is your “crack dealer”. You must come and see for yourself!

Nas recently released the video to ‘Cherry Wine’, his track featuring the late Amy Winehouse. Directed by Jay Martin, Nas plays a bartender who bonds with a woman who reminds us of the late Winehouse.The video eventually ends with a nice tribute to Amy Winehouse, wishing her eternal peace.

In a Rap-Up interview, Nas said about his friendship with Amy, “Amy was just one of a kind. We just clicked like that. May she rest in peace. She’s watching us, she’s holding me down and I’m holding her down here. It’s just love forever.”

“Cherry Wine” is off Nas’ tenth studio album, Life Is Good, which is currently available now.

Legendary music crew The Hieroglyphics (Del the Funk Homosapien, Souls of Mischief, Casual, Pep Love, and Domino), in conjunction with Parish Entertainment Group, are pleased to announce the first annual Hiero Day music festival on Monday, September 3rd from 11am-6pm to celebrate the roots of hip hop music and the city of their hometown, Oakland, California. The event will feature Oakland vendors, food trucks, a family area, a skate area, and performances from The Hieroglyphics, Blackalicious, Planet Asia, Moe Green, and many more.

This inaugural event will become an annual celebration showcasing a diversity of innovative, multicultural, and local music. The festival will host Bay Area-based acts on the main stage, which will be located at the intersection of San Pablo and 17th Street, two blocks away from City Hall in the heart of downtown Oakland. The block party is designed to celebrate Oakland and support local businesses, the community and independent hip hop culture. The all-ages, environmentally conscious, free festival is committed to showcasing independent and emerging artists who live and work in the community. Long recognized for fostering a unifying atmosphere while maintaining a commitment to groundbreaking music, this Hiero Day festival is an extension of the wide appeal the Hieroglyphics crew has maintained on a friendship level for 30 years and as an official crew since 1991. The festival will remain free and accessible to all, regardless of income, thanks to generous sponsors who will be announced soon.

The Hiero Day idea was brought to fruition by Casual, who was notified by a fan on the Hiero Hoopla message boards that 9/3 is a great day to commemorate Hiero’s rise to prominence, building off Souls of Mischief’s seminal hit, “’93 Til Infinity.” Says Souls member and Hiero Imperium CEO Tajai Massey, “After looking at our influence and worldwide fan base, we wanted to give back in some way with an event that’s a mix of 4:20, X Games, and Lollapalooza. And since we’re from a city that has spawned several progressive movement and style, we want to show our pride and recognize these accomplishments as well as look towards the future by embracing the youth and engaging them with positivity. We started this as kids and have been buoyed and championed by youth worldwide. Urban Arts Adventure is a curated collection of programs that treat Seattle’s streets, businesses and buildings as one big venue, canvas and playground. The programming highlights how art helps us experience our city. It sends audiences on adventures around the city to see limited-capacity shows in non-traditional venues and secret and unexpected locations, featuring work by Danielle Agami/Ate9; Erin Jorgensen, Jesse Higman, Jose Bold +, Lingo Productions, Queen Shmooquan, Wesley K. Andrews and ilvs strauss, and zoe | juniper.

Traverse topographies of the city via art-centric tours including scavenger-hunts and bike races designed by Split Six & Lily Divine Productions, New Mystics, Litquake, and Dan Hawkins & Aaron Asis; and then return to the festival’s interdisciplinary and social hub Culture Club. Culture Club will be staged in a converted storefront in the downtown area and will feature day and nighttime programs including Genre Bender Showcase with Susan Robb, Graham Downing, Kate Wallich and more; Food for Thought Café by Klara Glosova & Rodrigo Valenzuela; art installations and exhibits by Julie Alpert, Allison Manch and Ian Young, Lindsey Apodaca, MKNZ, Aaron and Jessixa Bagley, Maggie Carson Romano, Ashleigh Rauen; a crowd-sourced filmmaking project with Collection Agency and Adam Sekuler; happy hours curated by Litquake, Fictilis, PDL; Think & Tell in partnership with Humanities Washington; a pop-up art market, surprise performances and late night parties. The Pitchfork Music Festival is a three-day event showcasing over 40 of independent music’s best bands and artists on three stages. With so many blockbuster festivals gouging their attendees out of absolutely obscene sums of money, only to confine them in uncomfortable, tight spaces and skimp on basic necessities, our goal is to do the right thing: That is, to create a reasonably priced summer music festival that provides an overwhelmingly positive, comfortable and fun festival experience for both attendees and musicians. Its primarily on artists and bands from alternative rock, rap & hip-hop, electronica, and dance music, although it has also included acts from hardcore punk, experimental/avant-garde rock and jazz in its lineups.
