Lana Del Rey – West Coast

Down on the West Coast, they got a sayin’…

Lana Del Rey released her official audio for her upcoming single titled West Coast on the highly anticipated album Ultraviolence. The Black Keys drummer Dan Auerbach is said to be producing tracks for the album. The song definitely has that California vibe to it, reminiscent of the surf rock culture of the 60′s and 70′s. Check out the official audio video above and stay tuned for the official music video coming soon.

Black Business : Modern Day Yakuza

Maiham Media recently released their controversial new short, titled Black Business: Modern Day Yakuza. Beautifully shot on location, the viewers are instantly transported to the dark streets of Japan where we get an intimate look into the Yakuza.

From Maiham Media:

Japan is famous for many things, such as technology, sushi, temples, geisha and amazing customer service. One side of Japan not often seen but living in plain sight are the people conducting in “Black Business”, the Yakuza. They’re not petty criminals confined to the streets, they’re international business men. Using knowledge, money, powers of persuasions and their influence in the government to help secure them lucrative international black business deals.

To the everyday citizen they serve as no threat, often polite and well spoken but if you are one to do business with them; Make no mistake they’re ruthless, calculated people that will not hesitate to better their position at your expense.

Forgot what you think you know, Japan is not all smiles and friendly customer service…

Calla Fall // Winter 2014

Calla Haynes was born in Toronto, and has been living in Paris for the past 10 years. After attending Parsons School of Design in New York and Paris, she worked with Olivier Theyskens at Rochas and Nina Ricci where she honed her textile and print design skills. The collection is based on Haynes? idea of ?relaxed luxury? – a brand that is unique and crafted, while at the same time modern and easy to wear. Her strong print designs are the foundation of each collection. Samsung, April 77, Honest By, and 3 Suisses have all called on Calla for collaborations. She continues to consult and design textiles for fashion brands around the world. Haynes was a finalist for the prestigious ANDAM award, France?s largest prize for young fashion designers, in 2010, 2011, and 2012. She was also a finalist for the Dorchester Fashion Prize in 2012. – www.Calla.fr

Nonoo Fall // Winter 2014 Runway Show

Yesterday afternoon after a some heavy art studio trolling and a delicious burrito, I cruised into Eyebeam Art+Technology Center. They hype was definitely real among Misha’s attendees pre showtime. The floor was buzzing with handshakes, high fives, hugs and fashion bloggers shooting up the front row. There will be some wholesale orders being made asap for sure, peep the maroon trench and mini skirt tho, woo fiyah!

Sergio Davila Fall // Winter 2014 presentation

“On a trip to Brazil, I found myself amazed by a free spirited group of gypsies. These culturally caravans of people on horseback can still be found moving from place to place throughout South America. I have taken a small token references from their lifestyle – one rich with color, earth tones, and an adventure filled history – as inspiration for the Fall/Winter collection.”

- Sergio

This morning I hit up the Sergio Davila presentation at Rogue studio in Chelsea NYC, the sun was cutting down through the window for a great natural key light. A couple things I liked; the full length slacks, the black leather jacket, the black blending to blue sweater and the gypsy smoky eye makeup. Buuuut there were some looks in there that made me say in my head “I would not hang out with that guy at a party”. The line seemed to lack a cohesive anchor, a dude may look preppy by day and tear it up at Burning Man every year. But as a collection it didn’t seem to mesh.

Antonio Azzuolo Fall // Winter 2014 feat. Warby Parker

I got my fashion week off to an early start with a small presentation from Antonio Azzuolo. Key hair stylist Sean Decuersa with the assistance of a couple friends were doing the hair and shot me the invite. Antonio is back in NYC after two years in Europe, his new line reflects all the travel he did while on the other side of the globe. The presentation was held inside the Warby Parker located in Chelsea NYC, some of the models even sported new 2014 WP frames. Previously a menswear only designer Antonio has now stepped into designing for the ladies, I heard him thank the female models for joining him on his new journey.

Rjd2 – More is Than Isn’t

Rjd2 recently released his studio album More is Than Isn’t on his label, RJ’s Electrical Connections. It features a wide variety of vocalists to rappers including Aaron Livingston, Phonte Coleman, P. Blackk, STS & Khari Mateen, and Blueprint. But Rjd2 does not stray far from what makes him so unique, which are his gritty drum breaks, vibrant analog synths and his classic MPC sampler.

He stated recently in a press release, ?In ways, all of my previous albums were in some fashion striving to achieve something more than being just instrumental music,?. ?This is the first RJD2 album I?ve made that actually revels in a relative lack of vocals.?

Ghostface Killah & Adrian Younge: “12 Reasons to Die”.

Ghostface Killah’s 10th album: “12 Reasons to Die”, along with a comic book,  released back in April. The album, in it’s entirety, was composed and produced by Adrian Younge.

Ghostface, Adrian Younge, along with Masta Killah were on a nationwide tour to promote the album. I was fortunate to see their show in San Francisco at 1015 Folsom.

(Side note: Whenever I go to a WuTang show, the diversity of the crowd always amazes me. I love that about WuTang fans. There is no complexity about being a Wu fan. You never have to feel as though you have to dress, act, or be a certain way. You can just be yourself, and all other Wu fans accept you.).

I attended their San Francisco show, and was completely blown away by the whole performance in it’s entirety. It was a raw display of Classic R&B meets Broadway, married to Psychedelic Rock– whilst having love affair with Hip Hop. It was trippy, intriguing, and exciting. I had never seen anything displayed as such, at a Hip Hop show.

Adrian Younge began the show with a live band “Venice Dawn”, all adorned in black neckties, suits, and sunglasses.

Ghostface Killah and Masta Killah then came out and put on a great performance. I hadn’t had one drink or a hit of weed. The show was damn amazing. I begged for people to pinch me, cause I seriously thought that I was dreaming.
